Rug

In 2021, the Biennale Architettura in Venice, Italy, opened its doors to the public, showcasing this custom design rug named Future Assembly World Map. The circular rug is designed by Studio Other Spaces, represented by artist Olafur Eliasson and architect Sebastian Behmann.

The biennale asked this future-related question: How will we live together? And thus, the exhibition Future Assembly was a response to curator Hashim Sarkis’s invitation to imagine a design inspired by the United Nations - the current paradigm for a multilateral assembly. Studio Other Spaces invited all biennale participants to come together and offer more-than-human stakeholders from their local situations for Future Assembly to find novel, imaginative ways of spatially representing diverse, nonhuman agencies.
